A Night of Rustic Italian Charm at Taverna Costale

An Enchanting Atmosphere

Stepping into Taverna Costale is like entering an Italian fairytale, with an ambiance that’s both romantic and rustic. The ceiling, a beautiful hammered tin, lends an air of sophistication, while the atmospheric low lighting creates an intimate environment perfect for a date night or a casual dinner with friends. The remarkable centerpiece of the interior, an intriguing wooden structure hanging from the ceiling, evokes the skeletal framework of an ancient boat. This, combined with an abundance of greenery, gives the space a unique charm that’s hard to find elsewhere in St. Pete.

Service with a Smile

The staff at Taverna Costale not only excel in hospitality but also make every effort to ensure your four-legged friends are welcomed with open arms. Bolt, my canine companion, was immediately greeted with a bowl of ice-cold water, and the staff were more than happy to present their verbal dog menu. Their attention to detail didn’t stop at their doggy clientele. Despite the busy Thursday evening atmosphere, the service was swift and attentive. When the bartender noticed an error in my order, they swiftly rectified it, going above and beyond to ensure my experience was nothing less than perfect.

A Taste of Italy

The dishes at Taverna Costale are a tantalizing journey through the Italian culinary landscape. The Tuna Tartare, served with a ginger vinaigrette and wasabi avocado mousse, was a delightful dance of flavors, fresh and perfectly balanced.

The Mediterranean Salad – a medley of butter lettuce, olives, shaved fennel, feta, pickled red onion, and roasted red peppers – was equally satisfying, with a tangy red wine vinaigrette that lifted the dish’s flavors. Bolt’s grilled salmon, from the pup-friendly menu, was not only well-received by him but also had a flavor profile that could rival any human dish.

A Must-Return Destination

The allure of Taverna Costale goes beyond its current offerings. With enticing options like Short Rib Benedict and Smoked Salmon Avocado Toast on their brunch menu, and desserts like Tiramisu and Limoncello Cake, it’s clear that multiple visits are necessary to fully experience the culinary wonders of this place.

Outdoor Seating – A Room for Improvement

While the outdoor seating area, adorned with string lights, offers a great view of the bustling St. Pete nightlife, it does lack some privacy. The addition of a plant barrier or some form of enclosure could elevate the outdoor dining experience, providing a more intimate setting away from the crowd.

The Verdict

Despite being located in a high-traffic area, Taverna Costale offers a wonderful dining experience, from the attentive service to the delightful menu options for both humans and their canine companions. It’s the perfect place to enjoy a slice of rustic Italy right in the heart of St. Pete.
