As a food critic always on the hunt for the best flavors and dining experiences, I was excited to check out Ceviche, a tapas restaurant in downtown St. Pete. Inspired by the laid-back atmosphere of Barcelona, Ceviche aims to bring the magic of the Iberian coast to the Bay area. And, of course, I had to bring my trusty canine companion, Bolt, along for the journey.
Ambiance and Atmosphere
Nestled in its new location on Beach Drive, Ceviche offers patrons a taste of European charm. With two exterior seating areas, diners can choose between a sidewalk spot under giant orange umbrellas, surrounded by lush shrubbery, or a more intimate experience on the covered front porch area, reminiscent of a veranda in Barcelona. Both outdoor spaces are equipped with fans, providing relief from the Florida heat.
Inside, the restaurant has undergone a transformation, boasting a brighter, more open space with lively Latin music setting the mood. The decor reflects the vibrancy of Spanish culture, with colorful accents and tasteful artwork adorning the walls.
A Flavorful Tapas Experience
As a self-professed food “thief,” I adore tapas-style dishes that encourage sharing. Our culinary adventure began with deviled eggs, enhanced with chorizo oil and adorned with microgreens and a delicate edible flower. The presentation was exceptional, adding a touch of elegance to this classic dish.
Next, we delved into the charcuterie board. Although the presentation wasn’t as impressive as the deviled eggs, the board featured delicious manchego and Iberico cheeses, jamon serrano, and coppa creminelli, accompanied by cornichons, honey, ground mustard, and salted marcona almonds. The variety of flavors and textures made it an enjoyable experience.
As we continued our tapas exploration, we sampled the Roasted Brussels Sprouts, which didn’t quite hit the mark for me. However, the Chuletas de Cordero (lamb chops with eggplant caponata, dill, and feta) redeemed the meal, with tender, succulent meat and a delightful combination of flavors.
Service with a Smile
Ceviche’s wait staff struck the perfect balance between attentive and unobtrusive. They kindly offered Bolt a milkbone treat and a bowl of water, ensuring he felt just as welcome as the human guests. Their prompt seating and excellent service, even during busy times, contributed to the relaxed Latin atmosphere.
Bolt’s Bark of Approval
“As a discerning canine diner, I must say that Ceviche exceeded my expectations. The moment I arrived, the staff offered me a tasty milkbone treat and a refreshing bowl of water. The outdoor seating was comfortable, and I appreciated the fans keeping me cool. While I didn’t get to taste the tapas, I could tell by the aromas wafting from the plates that the food was top-notch. I give Ceviche my highest bark of approval – woof!”
Ceviche is a delightful dining experience that transports you to the vibrant streets of Barcelona, with its delicious tapas, warm atmosphere, and attentive service. The variety of dishes ensures that there’s something for everyone, and the laid-back ambiance makes it perfect for a leisurely meal with friends or family. Whether you’re a food critic like me or simply looking for a unique dining experience, Ceviche is a must-visit destination in St. Pete. And, for those of us with four-legged friends, you can trust that they will be treated with the utmost care and attention. So, gather your loved ones – both human and canine – and embark on a culinary journey to the Iberian coast at Ceviche St. Pete. You won’t be disappointed.
