Doc Ford’s Rum Bar and Grille – A Scenic Haven for Seafood Lovers and Their Furry Friends

by | May 2, 2023 | Downtown, Reviews | 0 comments

Nestled at the base of the downtown St. Pete Pier, Doc Ford’s Rum Bar and Grille offers picturesque views, a Caribbean-inspired menu, and a warm, welcoming atmosphere for you and your pup. Read on for an in-depth look at my dining experience at this stunning waterfront eatery and be sure to catch Bolt’s Bark of Approval.

A Perfect Location with Gorgeous Views

Doc Ford’s prime location on the St. Pete Pier makes it an ideal spot to enjoy a meal while taking in breathtaking views of the water, Demen’s Landing, the pier’s iconic building, and the stunning St. Pete skyline. The restaurant’s interior is spacious and adorned with a beautiful saltwater aquarium, while the exterior boasts an expansive, dog-friendly patio area complete with fans and ample shade. The restaurant is situated right next to a marina, so if you’re lucky (and you most likely will be), you’ll get to see a few boats sailing by to enhance your view.

Welcoming Atmosphere and Attentive Service

Despite its popularity, Bolt and I were seated quickly at a high-top table with a perfect view of the water. The staff at Doc Ford’s is incredibly dog-friendly, providing Bolt with fresh water right away. Our waiter was kind and attentive, even amidst the bustling atmosphere of the restaurant.

Delectable Dishes and Fresh Seafood

Our culinary journey began with an appetizer of a dozen fresh Gulf oysters, shucked to order and served chilled with fresh lemon and cocktail sauce. These sizable oysters were some of the largest I’ve ever seen and tasted absolutely delicious. I ordered the Southwestern Cobb Salad with blackened chicken, hard-boiled eggs, avocado, and bacon, served over chopped romaine lettuce. The salad was flavorful, and the tortilla strips and blackened seasoning added the perfect spice and crunch.

I also tried the Steak Salad, featuring Chimichurri-marinated steak, asparagus, and red onions (minus the onions, of course) over mixed greens, tossed in chimichurri vinaigrette and topped with avocado and bleu cheese crumbles. Though tasty, I found the Southwestern Cobb Salad to be my preferred choice.

Refreshing Beverages and Entertainment

For those who enjoy a drink with their meal, Doc Ford’s offers a wide selection of cocktails, beer, and wine. I’ve heard their margaritas and mojitos are top-notch! The outdoor seating area also features a small performance area for live music in the evenings, adding to the vibrant atmosphere.

Bolt’s Bark of Approval

“I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Doc Ford’s Rum Bar and Grille. The staff was kind and attentive, ensuring I was comfortable and well-hydrated. Though there wasn’t a specific dog menu, I still enjoyed my time with the fantastic service and welcoming atmosphere.”

Doc Ford’s Rum Bar and Grille offers a delightful dining experience with stunning views, delicious Caribbean-inspired dishes, and a welcoming atmosphere for both humans and their furry companions. Bolt and I will definitely be returning to this scenic haven in the future.
