Hawkers Asian Street Fare, originally started in Orlando, has branched out to the vibrant streets of St. Petersburg, Florida. This bustling spot is a culinary haven, transporting patrons to the heart of Asia with its tantalizing fare.

This tale unfolds when Bolt and I visited their St. Petersburg location, immersing ourselves in the bold flavors, unique offerings, and the dynamic ambiance that Hawkers embodies.

The Atmosphere: An Asian Industrial Dream

Stepping into Hawkers, you’re immediately welcomed by an electric atmosphere that pulsates with energy and character. The restaurant is an intriguing blend of industrial charm and Asian aesthetics. The high ceilings and exposed pipes everywhere harmoniously meld with the vibrant decor, encapsulating the essence of bustling Asian street markets.

Their design subtly but effectively evokes a sense of excitement and anticipation, preparing you for a gastronomic journey across Asia. This industrial Asian vibe perfectly mirrors the colorful hustle and bustle, the cacophonous charm of Asian street food markets, setting the stage for the culinary spectacle to follow.

A Foodie’s Delight: Indulging in the Best of Hawkers

What truly defines Hawkers, beyond the aesthetics and the ambiance, is the culinary experience they offer. During my visit, I had the pleasure of trying some of their signature dishes that left an indelible mark on my taste buds.

The Crispy Tofu Bites, tossed in Hawkers’ five-spice seasoning, were a mouthwatering experience. The tofu was crisp, while the inside retained a tender, silky texture. The five-spice seasoning added a burst of flavors, making each bite a delicious surprise.

The Duck Fried Rice was another standout dish. Comprising five-spice hand-pulled duck, lap cheong, egg, crispy shallots, and veggies, it was a delightful medley of ingredients that came together beautifully. The flavors of the duck and lap cheong paired perfectly, while the egg and crispy shallots added texture and depth to the dish.

But the showstopper for me was the Coconut Shrimp. Lightly coated and perfectly fried, each piece was succulent and flavorful. The subtle sweetness of the coconut added an exotic touch, making the dish an absolute winner in my book.

The taste, aroma, and visual appeal of the food encapsulate all five senses, offering a sensory overload that leaves you with a yearning for more. And while I didn’t try the dessert during my visit, the Jo-Hé Bag O’ Donuts and Banana Spring Rolls are already on my must-try list for our next visit.

Scattered throughout are fans to keep the heat at bay, making the outdoor area a comfortable and appealing space even in the warmer months. The blend of great food, a lively atmosphere, and dog-friendly facilities makes Hawkers a place where you can enjoy a delightful meal while your furry friend also feels welcome and comfortable.
