Nestled in the heart of the vibrant Grand Central District in St. Petersburg, Florida, LALA St. Pete positions itself as a versatile dining establishment. Combining the allure of American cuisine and Mediterranean-inspired fares with a dash of French influence, the restaurant presents a broad palette of tastes for its patrons.
A promise of their menu is the assurance of fresh, high-quality ingredients used in every dish. With their private karaoke rooms (you’ll need reservations for a private room) and purportedly dog-friendly ambiance, LALA St. Pete extends an invitation for a multi-sensory dining experience. However, while this offer is tempting, my recent visit suggested some room for improvement in realizing their potential as a dog-friendly restaurant.
The Ambiance
The exterior charm of LALA St. Pete is undeniable, with its modern industrial design tempered by warmer touches. An eye-catching feature is a moss wall that delicately spells “Love Is A Song”, radiating a welcoming ambience. The establishment offers glimpses of fun and liveliness through the large glass windows that allow passersby to observe the action within, including the unique karaoke rooms.
The outdoor seating and rooftop bar are supposedly pet-friendly areas, yet the lack of coverage could prove to be a challenge during Florida’s unpredictable rain showers. Furthermore, apart from water bowls for the dogs, there were limited amenities for our four-legged friends. While technically dog-friendly, the accommodation for dogs seemed more of an afterthought than a considered feature of the dining experience.
The Menu
LALA St. Pete promises a culinary journey for its guests, with all dishes prepared in-house upon order. On paper, the menu tantalizes with descriptions of diverse dishes such as the Seacuterie Board, Black Truffle Mac and Cheese, and the Truffle Aioli Burger. Yet, the reality of dining at LALA’s can be a different story.
During my visit, I ordered a charcuterie board, expecting a carefully curated selection of meats, cheeses, and accompaniments. While the presentation was aesthetically pleasing, the contents of the board were not as ordered. The discrepancy was disappointing, particularly as there was no opportunity to rectify the situation due to inattentive service.
Given this delay, the view of COCKtails from the rooftop bar at LALA’s across the way became an unexpected diversion. The sight of the lively bar provided an amusing backdrop and helped to pass the time while we awaited further attention from our server. Despite the bustling atmosphere of the restaurant, Bolt and I seemed to have been forgotten. This inconsistency in service, while possibly an isolated incident, did mar the overall dining experience at LALA’s.
The Bottom Line For The Restaurant
While LALA St. Pete boasts a vibrant atmosphere and an enticing menu, its promise of being a dog-friendly establishment falls short in its current state. The lack of consideration for the needs of dogs and their owners, especially in terms of seating, amenities, and service, detracts from the restaurant’s potential as a pet-friendly destination.
Potential and Areas of Improvement for LALA
In conclusion, LALA St. Pete holds significant potential in terms of its culinary offerings and general ambiance. However, their claim to being a dog-friendly restaurant seems not fully realized yet. While the staff is amiable, their attention to customer service, specifically to customers with pets, could be improved. While the food is promising, the execution could use some tightening up to ensure that customers receive what they order.
LALA St. Pete stands as an establishment with the potential to be a shining star in the St. Petersburg dining scene. However, to truly become a haven for dog-loving patrons, they need to reconsider and refine their approach to accommodating their furry guests. With a few adjustments, LALA St. Pete could truly become a leading dog-friendly restaurant in the area. It may be a place to consider if you like karaoke and you’re looking to reserve a unique karaoke experience near Tampa and other resorts popular to the area, but as of now, it may not be the top choice for those seeking a seamless dog-friendly dining experience.
